Riders can access a free unlock code during the upcoming temporary shutdown of the Orange Line.
Commuters affected by the temporary Orange Line closure, which runs Saturday through Friday, can access free Bluebikes unlock codes sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
According to a WBZ report, non-members can access five free bike unlocks for both pedal bikes and e-bikes. However, a per-minute fee still applies to the e-bikes. Riders can access the unlocks using the code MBTAORANGE26 in the rewards section of the Bluebikes app.
The offer is good across the Bluebike system, which covers Arlington, Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Newton, Revere, Salem, Somerville, and Watertown.
The codes will only be valid during the upcoming Orange Line closure, from Oct. 26 through Nov. 1.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is the title sponsor of Bluebikes, which offers public transportation by bike. The system is owned by 13 municipalities in eastern Massachusetts and is jointly managed by Boston, Cambridge, Everett, Somerville, and Brookline. Bluebikes is operated under contract by Lyft.
