BOSTON (WWLP) – The Cannabis Control Commission, or CCC, met on Thursday to discuss ways to license businesses that want to offer social consumption of marijuana on their premises.
This meeting comes at the very beginning of the process of introducing social marijuana consumption, which allows adults to purchase and use cannabis at the same location, in Massachusetts.
“Some jurisdictions have allowed social consumption just within the last few years…social consumption is really, I view it, still in its infancy,” said Acting Commission Bruce Stebbins.
The CCC is aiming to offer three distinct types of licenses:
- Supplement licenses for cannabis use areas within existing marijuana establishments–like a smoking area in a dispensary.
- Hospitality licenses for cannabis use at existing non-cannabis establishments–like a yoga studio that serves THC beverages.
- Event organizer licenses for entities to organize and host temporary consumption events–like a concert that offers a pre-roll area.
