BOSTON (WWLP) – A child sex abuse prevention group held a briefing on Tuesday to advocate for updating laws to protect Massachusetts children.
Enough Abuse hosted the meeting and touched on how Massachusetts stacks up to neighboring states when it comes to legislation protecting children from enduring sexual abuse.
The Executive Director of the group explained that the Commonwealth falls short in educating school staff and students about abuse.
“All along the East Coast, up and down the East Coast, we’re the only state that has not passed legislation, I mean we should not be in the company of this small group of other states,” said Enough Abuse Executive Director Jetta Bernier.
Enough Abuse says the first step in stopping child sex abuse is to educate children about how to get help if they find themselves in an unsafe situation.
Child sex abuse prevention groups are also advocating to criminalize AI-generated materials depicting children.
37 states have updated their laws–but not Massachusetts.
