Michigan has lots of deer, but many are in the wrong place

LANSING, MI – It’s a tale of two peninsulas. One with the best of times in deer hunting and the other with the worst of times. Michigan wildlife officials are launching a new deer management initiative to look at the challenges facing the state’s deer herd, whether and where there may be too many whitetails or too few. The goal is to figure out ways to bring the herd into better balance both in the Upper Peninsula and across Lower Michigan.
