Governor Gretchen Whitmer is urging Michigan people who qualify to file their individual income tax returns for 2023 and to take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), commonly known as the Working Families Tax Credit, on both the federal and state levels. With the use of this program, taxpayers may be able to lower their state and federal taxes, maybe resulting in no tax obligations at all or even a tax refund. Last year, Governor Whitmer signed legislation increasing Michigan’s state contribution of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which improved eligible individuals’ refunds by an average of more than $6,000.
