GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This week on “To The Point,” our conversation with former congressman and Ambassador Pete Hoekstra, now the chairman of the Michigan Republican Party in the aftermath of Tuesday’s election that for the first time since 2016 showed the Michigan GOP was still in the game.
“We did walk into a dumpster fire. The party had no money, we were in the hole. We had defaulted on our bank loans with Comerica. Money had come in from Washington and it had been used to pay for administrative expenses rather than have put (it) into the campaign fund. The party was bitterly divided,” he said.
Hoekstra said that the Michigan GOP decided it wasn’t the time and place to discuss the previous regime.
“There’s plenty to talk about, plenty of things that you could have held them accountable for. There’s a time and a place for that, it is not now. So, we’re going to put the party back together, and we’re going to focus on one thing, singularly: November of 2024,” he said.
