New Year’s Eve celebrations, helping hands, and an artic blast in northeast Michigan

ALPENA, Mich. – Happy New Year’s Eve, Northeast Michigan! Here are some local stories to start off our new year. First up, Alpena is hosting its first-ever sunrise celebration tonight. Anne Gentry, the executive director of the Alpena Downtown Development Authority, shared details about the event. “This year, we’re hosting our first New Year’s Eve event downtown. Instead of a ball drop, we’re doing a sunrise with lights at midnight in the parking lot behind Mangos,” Gentry said. The celebration will feature two DJs, starting at 9 p.m. and ending at 1 a.m. in the alleyway. With patio heaters, fire pits, and open restaurants and bars until late, this event promises to be the only large-scale New Year’s Eve party in the region. Make sure to bundle up and bring your camera to capture the moment.
