What’s the February snow outlook in Minnesota?

Wednesday’s high temperature of 55 degrees at MSP Airport was the third warmest January temperature ever recorded in the Twin Cities and a continuation of what has been a phantom winter in Minnesota.

With just 7.3 inches of snow so far, is there any hope for snow lovers on the horizon? The short answer is no, though there are some signals that could change the outlook.

The outlook for Feb. 6-10 calls for above normal temps and near normal precipitation, with the exception of northwestern Minnesota having a shot at above normal precipitation.

Going out a bit further, the outlook from the National Weather Service for Feb. 8-14 keeps temps above normal along with precipitation chances near normal or perhaps leaning slightly in favor of above normal.

After hitting the mid 50s on Wednesday, temps Thursday are expected to rise into the upper 40s on Thursday. And daily highs are expected to rise into the 40s until next week. That’s when things might get interesting.
