Minneopa State Park Campground Set for $5 Million Renovation

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced plans to renovate and modernize the campground at Minneopa State Park near Mankato. The park is one of the oldest in Minnesota’s state park system and has become increasingly popular in recent years.

The DNR will invest $5 million to upgrade the 59-site campground, with the goal of creating a model for future state park campground improvements across Minnesota.

Planned upgrades at Minneopa include enlarging campsites, adding more electrical hookups, constructing modern restrooms and showers, improving accessibility, and adding amenities like wifi and upgraded utilities.

“Minneopa presented a unique opportunity with its popularity, proximity to major population centers, and need for modern infrastructure,” said DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen.

The project is part of $150 million in statewide park improvements funded by the legislature last year. The money will go toward improvements to campgrounds, trails, boat launches, and other recreation infrastructure.
