(St. Paul, MN) — A bill being proposed in Minnesota will fine anyone up to $1,000 if they interfere with a youth athletic activity. The bill was proposed by John Huot, a former referee. He is proposing a bill after he says refs and umps have been followed home and had food thrown at them. One ref had his whistle ripped off his lanyard while officiating a game at Lake Park-Audobon. Thousands of refs, umpires, and officials took part in the survey, with 70% of them saying sportsmanship is worsening, and about 50% saying they fear for their safety.
