Freeze Warning: Temperatures Drop as Low as 25°F in St. Louis Counties

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth has issued a Freeze Warning for Central and North St. Louis Counties, including Ely, Hibbing, and recreational areas such as Voyageurs National Park and the Boundary Waters western area. The warning remains in effect until 8 AM CDT this morning as temperatures are expected to drop as low as 25°F, posing significant risks to sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Frost and Freeze Conditions Threaten Plants and Plumbing

Residents in the affected areas, including the Tribal Lands of the Bois Forte Band and Lake Vermilion and Nett Lake regions, are advised to take immediate precautions. The sub-freezing temperatures could damage or kill crops and other sensitive plants. Homeowners should also be mindful of outdoor plumbing; it’s recommended to wrap, drain, or allow pipes to drip slowly to prevent freezing.
