Meet the Candidates: Minnesota Senate District 45

A pair of candidates – Republican Kathleen Fowke and DFLer Ann Johnson Stewart – are vying for the Minnesota Senate District 45 seat on Election Day. The seat is open due to former state Sen. Kelly Morrison’s resignation to pursue a candidacy for Minnesota’s Third Congressional District seat.

Each candidate in contested races was asked the same set of questions by the Laker Pioneer, and candidates were asked to limit their responses to 100 words or less. Fowke did not respond to the questionnaire. Unedited responses from Johnson Stewart can be found below.

Early voting in Minnesota opened on Sept. 20, and Election Day is Nov. 5. Find your local polling place online at pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us/

Question 1: What prompted you seek election (or re-election) to office?

Ann Johnson Stewart: It was always my intention to return to continue fighting for the great public schools, water infrastructure and investments, freedom to make our own choices, and great jobs our communities and families deserve. When the Special Election was called I signed up right away, knowing I could once again have a chance to be an advocate for my neighbors and our region.
