November 18-22 is winter weather awareness week in Minnesota and what better timing for it considering the National Weather Service could be issuing winter weather alerts in the middle of the week.
Nothing is set in stone, but there are strong signals for wintry weather.
First, there’s going to be a warmup. Temps will rise into the 50s and possible hit 60 in parts of Minnesota on Saturday. A cold front swings through Sunday and that will prompt a precipitous drop in temperatures and set the stage for what could be a very interesting midweek as a low-pressure system ejects out of the Southern Plains in the central U.S., which could put Minnesota on the cold side of a precipitation dome.
There could be precipitation as early as Monday-Tuesday, with the National Weather Service in Chanhassen forecasters saying temps in the 30s to mid-40s would keep that first batch of precipitation as rain. Then it gets interesting…
“How everything evolves from there is yet to be determined as there are many moving parts and things that could go ‘wrong’ from a forecast perspective as the next phase of the system progresses,” the NWS said Thursday morning. “But for now, keep an eye on future forecasts and know that next week will be wet, windy, and much colder than we’ve seen so far this month.”
