Workers at Starbucks locations in the metro area and Duluth have joined a nationwide strike.
Starbucks Workers United — which represents workers at more than 500 stores across the country — recently authorized an unfair labor practices strike, with workers walking off the job on Christmas Eve.
Workers at eight stores in the metro area and one in Duluth joined the strike, according to KSTP . Signs on the door and on the drive-thru menu at a location on Fairview Avenue in Roseville reportedly read “temporarily closed.”
The station reported that around 170 stores across the country did not open as planned on Christmas Eve.
Starbucks Workers United voted 98% to authorize the strike, citing issues including wages. In a statement, Silvia Baldwin, an employee at a Philadelphia Starbucks, said she is poised to get a 2.5% raise next year.
“Starbucks can’t get back on track as a company until it finalizes a fair contract that invests in its workforce. Right now, I’m making $16.50 an hour,” Baldwin said in a statement.
