Minnesota’s weather is going to progressively get colder in the coming days and January is poised to start off cold. It’s just a matter of how cold it’ll get and whether the chill will be accompanied by snow.
“We’ll have high pressure parked over the Canadian Prairies that will supply us with a persistent northwest wind Monday night through Friday. This will gradually cool us down each day, culminating in Friday, when highs will range from 5 to 15, with lows Friday night of -10 to zero,” says the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities.
How cold it gets next weekend and through next week could be determined by where a storm system tracks over the weekend. The further south the storm tracks, the more cold air there will be over Minnesota as it sinks to the south from Canada.
Right now, it looks like a southerly track will dominate and keep the snowstorm south of Minnesota. But keep in mind that this system isn’t scheduled to be in the region until Saturday-Monday, so the track is almost surely going to change.
