LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST DNR FOR FATAL MINNEOPA PARK LANDSLIDE

The family of a 19-year-old who died after a landslide at Minneopa State Park have filed a lawsuit against the Minnesota DNR. The lawsuit alleges the DNR failed to properly warn visitors of the dangers of standing near the lower falls. It says the DNR did not post appropriate warnings near the falls but also “constructed and/or maintained artificial features at the lower falls, including stairs, paths and signs, which directed and encouraged visitors to gather and linger in areas directly beneath the falls.” The lawsuit says a sudden landslide trapped Jack Loso under layers of rocks and sand. The lawsuit also says his sister and cousin, who were with him on the hike, have “suffered significant emotional distress with accompanying physical manifestations.” The family is asking for compensation of $50,000 per individual for severe emotional distress on behalf of Loso’s next of kin as well as his sister and cousin…
