JACKSON, Miss. – There is a push to boost starting pay for state law enforcement officers. Two bills in the Mississippi State Legislature would increase starting pay to $60,000 for Mississippi Highway Patrol Troopers, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Agents as well as Capitol Police Officers. The measures would cost the state $15 million per year.
