Mississippi’s National Guard Deployed to Aid in the Aftermath of Hurricane Helene

The Mississippi National Guard is travelling to bring assistance to those who have been devastated by Hurricane Helene, a hurricane that has been called “catastrophic,” “Biblical,” and “unsurvivable” by weather experts.

According to Darkhorse Press, approximately 31 soldiers and airmen with the guard deployed for missions in North Carolina and Florida. Governor Tate Reeves approved an Emergency Management Assistant Compact request for assistance when Helene made landfall in Florida and traveled up the Southeast coast and into the Carolinas.

Reeves said, “We’ll do whatever we can to assist our fellow Americans in their time of need.”

As soon as the request was made, the men and women with the Mississippi National Guard sprang into action without a moment’s pause. Colonel Cynthia Smith, commander of the 186th Air Refueling Wing, said, “We are proud to serve both our community and country when called upon.”
