Bringing back the seven-layer salad: This retro dish is full of color and still delicious

Last week, my uncle’s passing sent my mom and me to be with family and to spend three nights in the home of Angela Crimm, a dear family friend in our hometown in Mississippi. Food is a big part of grieving and the Southern funeral experience. Being with all the people I’ve loved for so long was good for my heart – including cousins and aunts and friends like Crimm who have become family through the years.
