Lawsuit claims facial recognition program led to wrongful arrest

CLAYTON, Mo. – A computer facial recognition program led police to a man who was arrested and then released 17 months later. That man is now suing not only police, but also Amazon Web Services for supplying the program that allegedly picked him out.

FOX 2 News first reported on this case in February 2025. The lawsuit alleges Amazon Web Services pushed a facial recognition program on the St. Louis County Police Department, then failed to warn the department about problems with it.
