ST. LOUIS – The Missouri House Republicans are moving forward with a proposal that would make it more difficult to change the state constitution. Right now, constitutional changes go on the ballot with enough petition signatures and go into effect with a simple majority vote.
FOX 2’s partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the proposal would also require a majority vote in five of Missouri’s eight congressional districts and in half of Missouri’s 163 house districts. The governor would also get to choose whether initiative petition changes would go on the August ballot or the November ballot.
