Missouri House committee considers bill requiring drunk drivers to pay restitution to children

A Missouri House committee is considering a bill that would require those who kill parents in drunk driving crashes to pay restitution to surviving children. The bill is known as “Bentley and Mason’s Law.” It’s named after the two children who were left behind when their parents and four-month-old brother were killed in a crash in Jefferson County in 2021. A drunk driver was to blame for the crash that killed Lacey Newton, 24, Cordell Williams, 30, and Cordell Williams, Jr., of Bonne Terre. Bentley and Mason are now being cared for by Cordell’s mother, Cecelia Williams.
