What you need to know about the Missouri Republican caucus

CARTHAGE, Mo. (KOAM) – This election year is going to look a little different in Missouri.

Missouri voters may be used to voting in a presidential primary election, but that is changing.

The Missouri Legislature did not reinstate the presidential preference primary. Now Missouri Republicans will have the opportunity to participate in a caucus this election season.

The Republican caucus is scheduled for March 2nd.

“This is the first time in my recollection that we are actually having, where people, we are going to count the votes for that candidate and that candidate will actually be the one that wins,” says Charlie Davis, Jasper County Clerk.

On the day of the caucus, voters will choose which Republican candidate they want to represent them.

“If it is an individual that has less than 15 percent of the vote, then that individual will actually drop out and those individuals will be able to align themselves with one of the other candidates,” says Davis.
