4-H, FFA EQUINE SHOWS KICK OFF COMPETITIONS FOR 122nd MISSOURI STATE FAIR

Equestrian exhibitors are in the midst of their contests this weekend, the first events for the 122nd Missouri State Fair.

The 4-H and FFA Equine Show usually takes place two weeks prior to the rest of the fair, providing a different atmosphere for the horses and participating youth. Thursday’s contests included pole bending and barrels, the first of several events that riders including Maylee Correll of the Chilhowee Indians 4-H Club will compete in.

Another member of the Chilhowee Indians 4-H Club, Kirby Shanks, introduced her horses.

Creativity is encouraged among competitors, ranging from a stall decoration contest to the annual costume event. Tyson Smith of the Clinton Cool Cats 4-H Club says he and his brother are looking to win for a third year.
