Arrest made in large cattle theft

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a Wisconsin man is in jail following an investigation of stolen cattle in south-central Missouri.

The patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control said Jordan E. Leisgang, 27, of Seymour, Wis., was arrested July 25 for receiving stolen property following an investigation by the patrol’s Rural Crimes Unit and other law enforcement agencies.

In November 2023, the Howell County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Rural Crimes Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control with an alleged livestock theft, which occurred in their county. A Howell County resident reported that in August 2023 he helped facilitate the purchase and transportation of 450 head of cattle, from a Salem, Ark., sale barn, for Leisgang. The victim reported after the delivery of the livestock was made in Wisconsin, Leisgang refused to pay for the cattle and ended communication with him.

On July 17, 2024, a Howell County Grand Jury indicted Leisgang for receiving stolen property, in connection to the cattle theft investigation. On July 25, Wisconsin authorities arrested Leisgang on the Howell County arrest warrant, stemming from the Howell County Grand Jury indictment.
