SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — Property taxes remain a hot topic for Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen.
In South Sioux City Tuesday, as part of his State of the State town hall series, Pillen highlighted a plan to lower property taxes by 40 percent. He laid this out already during his State of the State address in Lincoln last week.

Gov. Pillen said that in the last six years, property taxes in Nebraska have increased by $1.3 billion. He also wants to see a hard cap on spending.
“We have to do something different,” Pillen said. “If we all agree we have to fix this, we keep doing the same thing and think we’re going to get a different outcome, I think that word is called ‘insanity.’ We have to do something different. That would be perfect if we could, but we haven’t, and this has happened multiple times. We have to fix it now.”
Pillen said, whatever it takes, property taxes will be reduced by 40 percent.
