Seasoned Ice Fishermen Escape Submerged Shack in Nebraska

Two experienced ice fishermen narrowly escaped danger at Willow Lake in northeast Nebraska after their shack plunged into the water. Highlighting the importance of caution on winter ice, the Pierce Fire and Rescue (PFR) responded swiftly to the incident

According to 1011 Now, the fishermen, accustomed to reading ice conditions, ventured into a thinner area, triggering the shack’s sudden submersion.

Fortunately, they managed to escape unharmed, but had to leave behind their equipment and UTV.

“Two ice fishers were there (at the Willow Lake) and observed good, 13 inch ice. They then moved to another spot less than 50 feet away and encountered ice around five inches and unfortunately, the ice broke on them,” Pierce Fire and Rescue said in a statement on Facebook.

“They experienced extremely rapidly deteriorating ice and had to abandon the UTV, their gear, and the shack.”
