A warm front brings a wide range in temperatures today before severe storms move in later today

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – A band of moderate to heavy showers along with frequent lightning continues to push through Eastern Nebraska early this morning and will move out of the area later this morning. In its wake will be quite a bit of cloud cover left for a large part of the area. These clouds will keep temperatures down for a large part of the area today. Strong south and southeast winds of 10 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph will continue to bring increased dew points into our area. But much of the area will struggle to warm unless the sun can come out. Some of the cloud cover will clear out from southwest to northeast as a warm front shift northeastward through part of the area. Those that stay north and east of that will remain cooler with highs in the 70s. Closer to the Tri-Cities, sunshine may not come out until the mid to late afternoon, which could lead to some late afternoon warming into the 80s to near 90°. Areas south and southwest of the Tri-Cities could see high temperatures into the 90s to near 100°. Heat index values up to around 105° are possible. The highest uncertainty in temperatures will be right around where the front ends up later today in central parts of the area.
