Insect with new appetite for soybeans discovered in northeastern Nebraska

The menu has changed for an insect native to North America. Unfortunately for farmers, soybeans are becoming the main course craved by the soybean tentiform leafminer. “This is an insect that’s always been here that was feeding on native plants growing in forested areas, but for whatever reason now it’s feeding on soybeans,” said Dr. Bob Koch, University of Minnesota professor and extension entomologist.
