Nevada State Police identify man hit and killed while attempting to cross Interstate 80

The Nevada State Police identified a man killed Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Interstate 80.

The victim was Lamont Caldwell Jr., 24, of Nevada, police said in a Tuesday evening release.

Troopers responded to a report of a man being struck in the eastbound lanes of I-80 at Wells Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday.

A preliminary investigation shows that a juvenile was driving a Ford F-150 with four other juvenile passengers in the far left lane and struck Caldwell, who was crossing the highway illegally, police said. Caldwell died at the scene.

The driver and other passengers in the Ford were not injured in the crash, police said. The driver and other occupants are cooperating with the investigation.
