Burning Man: Every version of The Man from 2001 to 2024, and how to watch this year’s burn

Burning Man, the weeklong late-summer event in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, is set to wrap up over the three-day Labor Day weekend. The highlight of the event is the annual burning of The Man, a tall, mostly wooden effigy, on Saturday evening.

The event started in 1986 in San Francisco, but moved to Nevada in 1990 and evolved into the Burning Man of today. Along the way, the design of The Man also has evolved from year to year. Here’s a look at every design since 2001, and how to livestream this year’s burn on Saturday.

A l ive webcast is broadcasting the annual festival 24 hours a day through the finale on Sept. 2.

For most of the time, the camera is pointed at the wooden effigy at the center of Burning Man. The link can be found on Burning Man’s website at burningman.org/live-webcast/ .

The Man is scheduled to burn on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 9 p.m. Pacific Time.
