Nevada Democrats trying again to cap prescription prices on 10 drugs

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Democrats are renewing an effort to save money for all Nevadans — not just those on Medicare — who rely on any of the 10 prescription drugs the federal government has negotiated prices on with Big Pharma companies.

Nevada Assembly Democrats Venicia Considine and Natha Anderson submitted a bill draft request reintroducing the Affordable Medicine Act.

It sets up a possible replay from the 2023 Legislature, when Assembly Bill 250 (AB250) was passed in both chambers but eventually went down as one of 75 bills vetoed by Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo . He cited free-market arguments against price-fixing, saying the bill would ultimately lead to higher costs and less accessibility to certain forms of care.

Considine, who represents areas of the southeast Las Vegas valley, remains optimistic about getting the bill through. She calls it “common sense legislation.” Considine spoke to Politics Now host John Langeler.

“This is truly a life and death situation. We have families — working families in Nevada — who have family members, whether they be children, teenagers or adults that are dealing with some of these blood cancers, or some of these COPDs, or some of these very life-affecting medical conditions where there are drugs out there that can help them,” Considine said.
