Danielle Ford discusses implementing educational improvements in run for State Board of Education seat

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Danielle Ford, a former member of the Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of Trustees, is now running for a seat on the Nevada State Board of Education. She joined the 8 News Now Daily Voting Guide to discuss her platform.

“One of the major reasons I’m running is because when I was on the board in 2022, the state board was investigating us and almost put us into recidivism,” Ford said. She noted that during a joint meeting between the state and CCSD boards, she was the only trustee who asked for state intervention, stating, “Please do, please help us.”

Ford highlighted her concerns with CCSD leadership, explaining that key district figures, such as the superintendent, resisted compliance with the 2015 reorganization law, which aimed to give more control to individual schools.

“They do not want to follow the rules of the state… It gives power to schools,” she said, emphasizing that the state must enforce these laws.

Addressing Nevada’s long-standing teacher shortage, Ford made a case that while pay and benefits are important, they are not the primary reason teachers leave.
