Sandra Jauregui discusses gun policy, education, and housing reforms in Assembly race

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui, who represents District 41 in southern Nevada, joined the 8 News Now Daily Voting Guide to discuss the upcoming election.

Jauregui has long been associated with advocating for gun control measures after the 2017 Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting.

“Ever since then, I’ve just made it my mission to make sure that I’m leaving Nevada safer for our communities and our families than when I entered the legislature.”

Jauregui recapped her efforts in previous legislative sessions, which included passing laws that banned bump stocks, implemented child safe storage measures, and introduced universal background checks and red flag laws.

Education is another priority for Jauregui, she said, particularly in the wake of budget shortfalls in the Clark County School District (CCSD).

“We need to keep making historic investments into our public education system,” Jauregui said, while making the case for increased “transparency and accountability” within the school district. In her view, simply funneling more money into education without reform will not solve the persistent issues in Nevada’s public schools.
