Women keep majority in Nevada Legislature for 4th session; 4 races remain very tight

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Going into the 2025 Nevada Legislature, women are on a hot streak.

Since 2019 — when Nevada had the first female-majority state legislature in the nation — women have held the majority of seats. They continued the trend coming out of election season this year and hold 60% of the seats in the Senate and Assembly combined. Some legislative races have not been called, but here’s how it currently looks.

Democratic Sen. Nicole Cannizzaro appears poised to lead the Senate again this year. She is currently leading Republican challenger Jill Douglass, 51.6% to 45.6% with 95% of the vote counted.

She’ll have a dozen women with her in the Senate, where 13 women will serve with 8 men.

In one of the tightest Senate races coming down to the wire, Republican Lori Rogich appears headed for victory over incumbent Democrat Sen. Dallas Harris — a woman wins even if that race swings. Currently, Rogich is 962 votes ahead with 50.6% to Harris’s 49.3% (95% reporting).

In the Assembly, 25 of the 42 seats are held by women. Three races remain extremely close:
