Driver of box truck wanted in fatal Alamance County hit and run arrested in New Jersey

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A driver accused of a deadly hit-and-run in Alamance County has been arrested states away, according to troopers.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says the suspect in the hit-and-run that killed Darrin Alston Swann, 19, of Liberty. His vehicle was side-swiped by a Penske box truck, causing him to swerve off the road into a ditch. He died at the scene.

The truck did not remain on the scene of the crash and law enforcement confirmed that they were found during a traffic stop in New Jersey. The suspect remains in the custody of the New Jersey State Police.

It is unknown when the suspect will be identified or if they will be brought back to North Carolina for charges.
