The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has announced a significant legal settlement with an Indiana-based firearms dealer, Element Armament, LLC, regarding the illegal sale of large capacity magazines (LCMs) to New Jersey residents.
Settlement and Compliance
Element Armament has agreed to stop advertising, offering for sale, and selling LCMs to New Jersey consumers, as well as to prevent the ordering and shipping of such items to any New Jersey address. This agreement is part of a Consent Order that resolves allegations from an undercover investigation conducted by the Division of Consumer Affairs. The firearms dealer will also pay a settlement amount of $17,705, which includes a civil penalty and reimbursement of attorney’s fees.
New Jersey’s Strict Gun Laws
New Jersey law strictly prohibits the possession and sale of LCMs, defined as firearm magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The state’s stringent regulations are part of its efforts to reduce gun violence, as LCMs can significantly increase a shooter’s ability to inflict harm rapidly.
