STORM WATCH: Mostly cloudy skies in New Jersey; tracking snow and wintry weather Tuesday

News 12 Storm Watch Team Meteorologist Hilda Estevez says after a beautiful weekend, a winter storm system will impact early in the week.

NEW & NOW: Mostly cloudy, comfortably mild with temperatures in upper 40s. Tomorrow features a sunny start before clouds drift in and rain late evening. Tracking storm with more certainty such as duration, quick mover and out by late morning Tuesday. Heavy wet snow to set up north of I-78 and I-80 New Jersey; in Connecticut north of Merritt and even more so north of I-84.

NEXT: Coastal storm approaches late Monday night into Tuesday. This storm has the potential to bring rain, snow and wintry mix across New Jersey and Connecticut. Gusty winds with accumulations are likely to cause travel troubles on Tuesday. After the storm, colder and quiet conditions through the midweek. Next chance for rain/flurries end of week.

TODAY & TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with some sunshine. Highs near 45-50. Overnight lows near 35-39.

MONDAY: Morning starts off sunnier, clouds drift in the afternoon. Rain showers could start across Flemington to Edison and points north around 7 p.m. Rain flares statewide New Jersey by 11 p.m. Temperatures trend mild until pre-dawn when rain to snow switch takes place. Highs near 39-47. Overnight lows near 30-36.
