Snowfall to continue into midmorning in NY, NJ with chilly temperatures

NEW YORK (PIX11) — The steady snowfall will gradually move away from the New York City region, but there’s a slight chance of snow continuing into the afternoon.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. for northeastern New Jersey, New York City and Long Island, according to the National Weather Service. A winter storm warning is effect in parts of New Jersey and Middlesex Couty until 10 a.m., according to the NWS.

The winds will kick up late with gusts approaching 25 mph. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 30s. After the wintry beginning of the weekend, it is smooth sailing for the long term.

Sunday will feature partly to mostly sunny skies. Highs will be around 40. To finish the extended weekend, it will be sunny for Presidents’ Day with temperatures in the mid-40s.

It will stay dry through the middle part of the week and temperatures will eventually make their way into the upper 40s. We will have to watch if another winter storm could affect the region sometime during the tail end of the week or next weekend. The forecast models differ significantly on how they handle that storm at this point.
