Lawmakers call on CYFD to quit housing children in their offices

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A bipartisan group of New Mexico lawmakers are calling on the New Mexico Children, Youth, and Families Department to stop housing children in their offices. House Memorial 10 is requesting that a joint task force be convened by CYFD and the Health Care Authority Department to make immediate recommendations to the legislature to solve the acute crisis of foster children sleeping in state office buildings which they say is unsafe.

A recent News 13 investigation showed police were called nearly every day to a Roswell CYFD building and at the Albuquerque office, one youth in CYFD custody accused another of rape.
