New Mexico lawmakers look to improve education across New Mexico

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Lawmakers in Santa Fe are considering a handful of bills that could help students from middle school through college. On the table is legislation to try to improve middle school education, change high school graduation requirements, and protect New Mexicans who borrow money for college.

Monday, January 29, lawmakers in the House Education Committee discussed the three ideas.

House Memorial 4 , sponsored by Rep. Joy Garrett (D-Abq.) asks the Legislative Education Study Committee to explore ways to make improvements to New Mexico’s middle schools. The Legislative Education Study Committee would connect with teachers, resource officers, youth groups representatives, and other experts to recommend ways to boost the quality of middle schools.
