Nearly $750 million transportation project bill to fix NM’s roads clears Senate floor

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) –  $750 million in state funds—in the form of Severance Tax Bonds—could soon be helping fix up a lot of highway and interstate projects in every corner of the state. Senate Bill 300 would be a major boon to some of the biggest road projects that the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has been struggling to get enough funding for throughout New Mexico.

“Mr. President, it’s time to help DOT get caught up fixing the roads in New Mexico; spend money, part of our three billion dollars, to do this,” said Senator George Muñoz (D-Gallup), who is sponsoring the bill. He pitched it to the Senate Floor Thursday afternoon: “Currently in Albuquerque in the Metro area in District 3, there’s about 1.3 billion dollars worth of roads that are deficient.”
