A potpourri of winter conditions has taken hold of the High Plains this afternoon and is expected to prevail through the entire day on Super Bowl Sunday. As I write this, moderate to heavy snowfall is ongoing in our most northwestern viewing area including northeastern NM, Dallam, county, and the western OK panhandle. Modest snow accumulations in excess of an inch has already occurred in the aforementioned locations. This band of snow showers will begin to continuously creep east/southeast into the western and central combined panhandles. By late night and early predawn hours of Sunday, moderate to heavy snow will begin to envelop the I-40 and I-27 corridors with large accumulations of several inches likely. Through the night, a snow band will translate and expand into the south/southeastern TX panhandle, prevailing through most of Sunday afternoon. Total snowfall accumulations of 6-8 inches with some localized pockets of a foot appears probable for the extreme northwestern viewing area and the I-40 corridor south. A winter weather warning will extend from midnight through 6 PM CST Sunday for the central and southern TX Panhandle. Another winter weather warning is set to expire at noon tomorrow for the counties of Union, Dallam, Cimarron, and Hartley counties.
