Bird flu threat looms for cattle

Cows of several dairy farms in southern states were recently infected by bird flu, according to state and federal agriculture officials. They are the first known infections of cattle in the United States by avian influenza, which is easily transmissible among birds and often fatal to domestic poultry but has been less lethal to cows, the U.S. Department of Agriculture says.
