In race for the New Mexico legislature, Democratic candidates outspending Republicans

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – More than 170 candidates are spending to try to win elections to the New Mexico legislature. There are still months to go, but so far, Democratic candidates are outspending Republicans.

So far, legislative candidates have reported spending more than $1.2 million campaigning for the 2024 primary election and general election. Over $744,000 of that was spending by Democratic candidates, according to records from the New Mexico Secretary of State.

New Mexico Supreme Court: Victim immigration history can’t be disclosed

The top spender so far is Democratic incumbent Javier Martinez, running for a seat representing Bernalillo County. His campaign has spent just over $79,000 running, data from the New Mexico Secretary of State (SOS) shows.

Behind Martinez, two Republicans have each spent around $50,000 in their campaigns. Steven McCutcheon and James Townsend are both running to represent districts in Eddy County.
