New Mexico officials confirm 10 cases linked to McDonald’s E. coli outbreak

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – State health officials said the number of New Mexicans who contracted E. coli during last month’s outbreak now stands at ten. The New Mexico Department of Health recently confirmed five additional cases linked to the slivered onions used in McDonald’s quarter pounder.

In all, 90 people in 13 states tested positive for E. coli and one person died. The NMDOH said since these additional cases were from the same time period as the others, they are not part of a new outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believes the risk to the public right now is “very low.”
