Temperatures are warming today and will continue to do so through Friday. Then another storm system will move through the state over the weekend.
A high pressure system to the southeast of New Mexico brings the state clear skies and warm temperatures today. Many places across New Mexico will see high’s today in the 60’s. Southeast New Mexico will see temperatures return to the 70’s.
A low pressure system will dip down into the Great Basin by Friday. A combination of the two pressure systems will bring strong southwesterly winds in New Mexico. This southwesterly winds will draw up warm air and raise the temperatures to be well above seasonable averages on Friday.
The low pressure system over the Great Basin will also bring strong wind gusts to western New Mexico on Friday. 25-45 mph Gusts are expected throughout the day on Friday. These increased winds could bring blowing snow to the snowpacks in the north. The winds are also the cause of an increased fire danger in western New Mexico.
