NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The New Mexico Department of Transportation is receiving millions of dollars to support the state’s effort to reduce traffic-related deaths. NMDOT and the Department of Public Safety are getting $7.5 million from the National Highway Transportation Safety Association to fund the state’s Target Zero program.

“Comprehensive crash data will allow us to identify the root causes of traffic incidents that make our roads safer for everyone,” said NMDOT Secretary Ricky Serna, in a news release.
The money will implement a crash data improvement plan. That will also expand crash date statewide.
