Tuesday’s Five Facts
[1] Two arrested after string of armed robberies, shooting with police – Police arrested 32-year-old Roberto Perez and 35-year-old Joshua Garcia. According to a criminal complaint, the two robbed a Circle K and a Verizon store at gunpoint. Police later tracked the pair to an Auto Zone on Carlisle. The pair fled from police and during the incident Perez was shot and later taken to the hospital. Garcia was booked into MDC and Perez will be booked when he is released from the hospital.
[2] Suspected scammer who showed up at victim’s home is arrested – A man is facing fraud charges after allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from an Espanola resident, while pretending to be with law enforcement. Jose Lopez says he was contacted by a person named Mahendra Darbar, who told him his social security number was tied to money laundering. Police say Darbar showed up to the victim’s home and demanded more than $70,000. The Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office said they’re now working with other state agencies to see if there are other victims out there or other suspects tied in.
