Light showers tonight and warmer weather this weekend expected across New Mexico

Parts of New Mexico saw a White Christmas on Wednesday and may see more snowfall on Thursday. However, by the weekend. the state will be warming up and drying out.

The upper-level low that brought snow to the northern mountains Wednesday is continuing its track eastward. A brief upper air disturbance will move into New Mexico later this afternoon and into the evening. This disturbance will bring a few spotty rain showers to the northwest. It will also keep the snow around southwestern Colorado and the northern mountains through the night.

On Friday, the state will be drying out. The only chance for precipitation is snow flurries in the northern mountains. The rest of the state will be seeing temperatures continuing to warm up. This warming trend will continue through the weekend. This is due to a strong high-pressure system forming over the Baja. The associated ridging will be helping to increase temperatures across New Mexico through the weekend. High temperatures will be near the mid 60’s in central New Mexico and mid 70’s in southern New Mexico.
